Gear Review: Ryan Grizzle City Slicker 2

You could spend a lifetime searching for the perfect holster, and just when you think you’ve nailed it, something new and better will come along, which is exactly what happened when I got a recommendation to check out Ryan Grizzle’s carefully crafted leather holsters.

I’ve been carrying my Colt Rail Gun for some years in a now-discontinued Kolbeson Leatherworks lined kydex inside-the-waistband holster that has been a real treat to wear, but the leather lining takes a beating with all the draw-and-present drills I do. I love the design and how comfortable it is, but I needed something better.

First of all, the finish and craftsmanship is off the charts. This holster is absolutely beautiful, and wears extremely well. I opted for the tuckable version with the plastic clips and leather loops, which allows for wear under a tucked or untucked shirt. I typically opt for untucked shirts, but always carry IWB, or inside the waistband, no matter what handgun I’m wearing.

Once I got my holster, I immediately took to wearing it about town with the old reliable Colt Rail Gun stuffed in it, and with a Hank’s Belt helping to hold up the weight, I found it to be surprisingly comfortable, easy to draw and just plain awesome in every way.

There’s a gazillion holster makers out there these days, and most of them deal in kydex of one form or another, but I am of the opinion that a classic carry piece needs a classic carry holster, and that means high quality leather.

Ryan Grizzle makes his rigs in cow or horsehide, and no matter what you choose, you’ll get one helluva holster for the money.

Try one and see!
